Description:
Rappelling/rescue hardware, including ascenders, descenders, friction devices, hoists/winches, hand rope grabs, carabiners, plates, racks, etc. (if covered, certified as compliant with the
NFPA
National Fire Protection Association
1983 requirements of
NFPA
National Fire Protection Association
2500). Can be combined with extraction devices to provide transport during rescue/recovery operations (see 08D2-01-LITR and 09ME-05-LITR).

Not all hardware used in rescue operations is covered under
NFPA
National Fire Protection Association
1983. Check the standard, and use certified equipment where possible.
Operating Considerations:
Stainless steel hardware, though heavier, tends to be more durable.
Recommend aluminum for use in water operations.
Avoid dropping hardware whenever possible and inspect for damage after every use.
Personnel should be trained for utilizing hardware in accordance with appropriate standards.
Establish routine inspection program to ensure hardware is free from damage.
